On "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" this past week, they noted that the war on drugs has created more drug users and that the war on terror has created more terrorists. Following this line of reasoning, one of the panelists noted that if we wanted to save the environment, we should simply declare war on it.
Sadly, we seem to be winning that one.

When I was in eighth grade, I was picked to work on a six-week study of the Chesapeake Bay that the high school seniors were doing. Imagine an 8th grader in a sea of seniors...it was brutal, but anyway - one of our activities involved role playing the meeting of different interest groups. I got to be a rep from BG&E (baltimore gas and electric). My entire argument for the positive nature of industry hinged on my opening - turning off and on the room lights a couple of times and saying "Does everybody like that? Yes, I bet you do!"
