The reading this afternoon went well. Smallish but focused crowd. I read poetry from the last year, especially in the last nine months. In fact, the last three months were probably the best represented. If you're a regular reader of this blog--both of you--than you've already read these poems, at least in draft. My intro was based on a quick questionnaire sent over by my friend John Chavez. Below, you can read his questions and my responses. That is, the intro. It got some chuckles.
1) If you could chose 3 Chinese food dishes that best decribe your sense of poetics, what are they?
General Tso's Narrative Impulse Chicken. Potstickers in wordplay sauce. Poached Chicken with Ginger, Ecopoetics, and Scallions. Beer.
2) Name that song and music group in four lines of lyrics: Crack that whip / Give the past the slip / Step on a crack / Break your mamma's back?
"Whip It" came out when I was in high school.
Devo's from my hometown.
You don't scare me.
3) You and Kim Jong Il have a sing-off on karaoke night at Rockhouse Ranch just outside of Roswell, NM--who wins and singing what song?
Kim Jong Il collapses during "Bohemian Rhapsody." He can't get past "I see a little silhouette-a of a man." I take the mike for the final number and vanquish him with The Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein."
4) No for some Math: I am the Hit away Kid. I am in a pickle. Can you help me? All right, if I am between 2 bases, first and second, and I get a chance to choose which base to go to but the 2nd baseman has the ball, how many choices do I have left?
Portfolio Option One, either scholarly or integrated.
5) Bill or George Clinton?
George. Can I get an amen?
