I just tore ass through Maxine Kumin's Jack and Other New Poems. Kinda prosy. Nice lil' narratives, some interesting characters. A dash of interesting language and some blowsy political concerns. I also stumbled across Paisley Rekdal's new book, The Invention of the Kaleidoscope. I'm about halfway done with it. Lots of fun, crisp language. Tight narratives that spin out around the line of the story. The long poems get a bit. . . Well, the long poem has a tendency to get a bit heavy. She does a great job of keeping them moving, but still.
We're just at the opening of a fun, heavy snowfall. The flakes are more like tiny beads, but they're piling up quickly. Lots of brisk wind, and a layer of ice underneath. Plus, lows tonight near ten. I recommend it.
