There's been a lot of grim discussion, of course. And you know I have friends there. Here's what they did at the end of that week (it's in her voice, from an email she batch-sent):
Friday was better. As you probably know, my amazing, wonderful husband Jesse is in veterinary school here at Virginia Tech. One of his classmates sent an email around asking veterinary students to bring their friendly dogs to the lawn in front of the West AJ dorm on Friday afternoon. Jesse and I brought our Mr. Bones, the handsomest, smartest, most eloquent beagle-mix in the world, dressed in his maroon Hokie bandana, adorned with a memorial ribbon. Twenty or so veterinary students brought their dogs (many of which were also dressed in Hokie colors) to give the grieving residents of West AJ some puppy love. Mr. Bones was wonderful. He “let” those students pet him and snuggle him and feed him treats. He met some of my current students, who agreed about his handsomeness and charm. I was so proud of him. And I can’t say how much better I felt afterwards. The puppy-love-in helped me as much as it helped the students, perhaps more. Mr. Bones has been my therapy dog for more than six years, and I’m glad I could share him with my students.
As you can see, these are good people.
