I've picked up Timothy Steele's Missing Measures: Modern Poetry and the Revolt Against Meter. It's on my list, so I don't have a lot of choice, y'know? He's arguing that the modernists made crucial missteps in their understanding of meter at the end of the Victorian era and that we're paying for their agenda today with the likes of, I'll say it again, Mary Oliver. He seems to be decidedly unhappy with the idea of poetry as a closed set. "Il n'y a pas rien hors du texte?" He would ask, "Really? Makes no sense." I'll keep y'all posted.
Two more items of interest: First, over at Finding Ong's Hat, a bit of poetical controversy; second, Danny Kaye's a villain.
