There is a mystery in the lives of D and I, which is saying something. We've solved quite a few puzzlers, and D has a button that names her as a "SuperSleuth." So this is a mystery to be reckoned with, to wit: We keep receiving free magazines. Like, for months at a time. We got Sunset for about a year. D had a ghost subscription to YM for about three years. It even followed us to Nebraska. The exorcism is still spoken of in many congregations and English classrooms in town. Now it's Newsweek's turn. But I was happy this week. Check out the cover article here. And you can read actual climate scientists agreeing with the article here. If you read through the archives, you'll get the fine detail that gets missed in a couple pages of a newsweekly. The climate battle seems to be joined.
Sadly, my own climate battle was unsteady today. While I walked to school--and got soaked, literally, to the skin--the entire office staff piled into cars and rolled out to Dwight, NE for lunch with Ted Kooser. We met him at his office, the beating heart of midwestern plainspeech poetry. And it's a fabulous office. We should all be so lucky. We then strolled about a hundred feet to the one restaurant/diner in town for sauerkraut and dumplings. Hours later, I'm still reminded of them. But a tasty break nevertheless.
