What to say? The grad student association planned its usual back-to-school get-together for the department. Always a good time. The skies threatened rain, but never threw down. Through all these summer storms, I keep thinking of storms on other planets and how, though seemingly ferocious, they have exactly the intention and agency of storms here. Which is to say, none at all.
With the new semester, everything changes again. Or swings its pedulum of priorities from Low to High on issues you didn't want to think about. Hiring. Budgets. Comps. But we got the proofs in for Winter 07, so I'm already in a holiday mood. Bring on the mistletoe. In all the chaos and distraction, it's hard to keep focused on the poems and essays. I'm working on it.
What else this weekend? Got a friend and colleague moved in--to the upstairs apartment, no less. So we know we have a good neighbor again. And we're doing a big clean. So big, it will take two days. Lovely non-toxic cleaners, muscle power, and podcasts in the headphones.
Last topic(s) in a traditionally jumpy post: I was up early enough to hear about the National Institute for Play, and, in checking my site stats, found another colleague's blog. Enjoy the gardening pix.
Stop checking your site stats. I was just trying to get design ideas. Sheesh.
