As I'm listening to a variety of talking heads and policy makers (some of each are elected officials) discuss energy policy, I'm fascinated by the terms of the discussion. That is: What will replace oil and coal? Here's how I read it: What powerful economic interests will replace the pipelines that lead from extraction to cars and home electricity, respectively? Which is another way of saying, "I own coalfields. What can I get behind that will be as singular in source so that I can control that new thing and keep making pillows and mattresses of hundred dollar bills?" In other other words, it seems to me that the discussion of energy policy isn't about how to make sure that renewable energy is widely available. Rather, wealthy interests need to back ONE solution so that they can make the same piles o' cash they're used to. If everyone had a solar panel. . . well. That's not a good market.
Am I totally missing the point?
